Leaving Facebook

The current political climate has made Facebook too toxic for me, so I'm taking an indefinite break. I set up this blog to give me a place to rant and say what I want to say, even if nobody ever reads it.

  1. Half tempted to do that myself. Ive always treated FB like a bar. You don't say (post) something you wouldn't say in a bar. You want to get punched or start a fight? Have at it. I don't. So I filter a lot of what I am feeling or thinking. On the flip side its the easiest way to keep in contact with people scattered literally across the globe. From my Niece in Japan and others in the Far East to the West Coast.....its hard sometimes to keep up with all the time zones. Ive run FB Purity to keep the ads in check and I have snoozed people who get overwhelming with the vitriol.......its tiring.

  3. I use Facebook to keep tabs on disparate groups I'm involved with. So often I'm not really intending to communicate with individuals, just the groups they're in, so I have less control than some from who can comment on my posts. Also, the heinous fuckery that's going on in the world affects EVERYBODY, and they're gonna talk about it. And I just don't want to hear it right now. I'm really sorry our country is so fucked up, and super sorry that it's bumming people out, but I'm bummed out enough already and just can't bear hearing about it anymore. If there's something I can actually DO for somebody, then by all means I want them to reach out to me, but there are few feelings worse than hating the state of the world and being powerless to do anything about it.
